From this information I can infer that although China recognizes the need for poverty reduction measures it has been difficult to find the right measures to help all families get out of poverty. One measure they have tried was to only allow those in extreme circumstances with no work, savings, or means (Childhood Poverty Research and Policy Center) to use goverment funded assistance. The studies have shown that people above this level of poverty also need assistance to assure their basic needs are met. From this I can infer that situations need to be taken on a individual basis to ensure all families are helped based on thier unique needs.

I agree with you that they need to look at individual situations to see how they can help each family. I would think that improvements wouldn't slow down if there are still people in need.
ReplyDeleteHi Amber,
ReplyDeleteI too looked at China's poverty issues. I found it sad that even though there is some assistance available it still is not enough so that families can provide the basic needs. You always see how China is working on moving into a more modern and industrialized nation but it seems that some of the population has been left out of plan. I hope they can continue to look at the poverty issue and find better solutions for those less fortunate.
Hi Amber,
ReplyDeleteI'm curious how you feel about China's policy implementation? I wonder how that would work over here. One thing I always do when I hear of how other nations solve or attempt to solve their conflicts is wonder how it would work in the US and what are the differences between there and here. I feel there would be a large amount of resistance if that policy were implemented over here and likewise, it could cause dissent because it is not specifically clear who qualifies. Does this apply to those who require unemployment insurance because they just lost their job? What if they were let go from a company but yet are not in dire straights just yet? There are so many variables to policies and procedures such as this.
I wonder what type of programs they have in China to offer families that are in poverty. Like I stated in the discussion, when there is no economic growth the poverty increases.
